this is goodbye… for now

when I completed the ICF Life Coaching 18-week training in May, I pushed hard to put together an online marketing system. Unfortunately, i did everything wildly out of order.

I kept sharing even though i had no focused audience.

I kept refining my offer even though i had no real practice.

i kept getting business coaches even though i had no official business.

i drank the Kool aid from a firehose of ai tools promising to make digital growth easier and faster than ever. It cost me lots of dollars—over ten thousand, actually—and countless hours combing through support pages and tweaking my website copy that no one was reading anyway (and it would be more embarrassing if they did.)

Look, I'm no psychology expert, but I'm willing to bet this came from a place of insecurity.

All i needed was a free gmail account and some solid, real-world connections. I treated myself like a whole organization when I'm just one person.

It's all too easy to forget where people start out. We're blasted with media from people who seem polished, branded, proud of what they offer, and have a team of professionals behind them.

For anyone who had to suffer my weird salesy jargon or wondered why i wasn't just doing standup comedy like when you first followed me, i am sorry.

I've unsubscribed from Squarespace and Google workspace, quit the mentorships, and i’ll do the same with my scheduling app, Lunacal.ai.

Zoom pro i’ll keep for face readings, for now, because i found Google meet a bit buggy, and i am envisioning doing live office hours and/or a weekly online meetup.

those fees I was paying are more valuable to me as cafe cash. LONG LIVE LOCAL!

PS. i am writing on Substack for the sake of writing. Find me there if you enjoy field notes and long form personal essays and stories (not tooooo long, though.) I am also featured on YouTube in Brian MacQuarrie’s animated sketches.

rad love,

k j
